Kim Dotcoms Mega

Kim Dotcoms Mega

Date: 05-Dec-2013

Mega is the continuation of Kim Dotcoms quest for sharing files and furthering his “Kimpire”. Kim Schmitz (the name he was born with on the 21st January) is known for spinning things as well as he can. Kim plans to become a politician in New Zealand, his adopted country where they say he bought his way into the good books of authorities and politicians. Kim Dotcom attracts media attention because of his supreme technical skills, alleged malicious intent, flashy lifestyle, comical actions, incredible declarations, and extraordinary frame (He is 6 feet 7 inches tall and weighs over 120 kgs).

Mega was supposed to be me.ga. Gabon did not entertain the thoughts though. The company has been registered as Mega in New Zealand. But Mega as it operates today is supposedly safe and even an enticing service. Mega offers 50gb worth of free data storage. Free 50gb of online storage draws the crowd in and generates the necessary buzz. Mega quickly became popular as people started using the service as soon as it went live. Many companies offer online data storage. The difference is that Mega offers client side encryption. This is its USP. Encryption usually happens at the servers and not at the client side, and this leads to a less secure data transmission.

Mega plans to include desktop syncing and a secure communications tool. With the internet now ubiquitous many feel that data encryption, if they later start implementing it on the servers, will lead to online music streaming.

Mega now has an Android app (8th November 2013) and an iOS app(26th November 2013) with a Windows phone app soon to follow. The iOS works on iOS 6.0 and later. The Android app works on devices 2.3 and upwards. The iOS app allows subscription to the premium Mega Pro service.
